STEAM DISTILATION:

This separation process includes the extraction of oils from different parts of the plant that are sensitive to high temperatures. Dry steam is passed through plant material during steam distillation, causing the volatile steam compounds to volatilize, condense, and collect in receivers.

Essential oil extraction uses steam distillation, which has been around for a while.
